Based on the market-leading textbook Microelectronic Circuits by Sedra & Smith and written in collaboration with Texas Instruments, an industry-leader in analog design, this course covers fundamental components of Analog and Micro Electronic Circuits. Through theory and experimentation, students will be introduced to the building blocks of electronics design and guided through practical applications and design considerations of analog electronics outside of the lab.

Understand the underlying theory of semiconductors
Analyze the relationship between voltage and current in semicondcutors
Compare the behavior of BJTs and FETs in saturation and active/triode states
Perform amplification using single transistors

SEMICONDUCTOR ANALYSIS

Students are introduced to the three building blocks of microelectronics: diodes, BJTs, and MOSFETs. Students will explore how these components interact with voltage and current and how these properties can be used and combined in different ways for different applications.

MICROELECTRONIC CIRCUIT IMPLEMENTATION

Students apply I-V characteristics of diodes and transistors to common applications such as rectifiers and amplifiers and learn how I-V characteristics impact an applied circuit.

OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIERS

Students are introduced to the operational amplifier as a core component of analog electronic design. They will explore the behavior of the operational amplifier, comparing ideal vs non-ideal models as well as different operational amplifier topologies: inverting & non-inverting; summing & difference; and integrating

MICROELECTRONIC CIRCUIT APPLICATIONS

Introduction to semiconductor design restraints such as reference voltage generation, temperature-dependent device characteristics, and component selection in the context of real world applications such as audio amplification and temperature sensing.
