This lab covers the parts of a power system that are purely AC. Students complete hands-on activities that cover the generation of AC power, and the conversion of AC power to other potentials using transformers.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this lab, students will be able to:

Describe the theory behind AC power generation.
Analyze the relationship between generator design and AC power waveforms.
Devise a process for controlling AC generation frequency.
Describe the theory behind power transformers.
Predict the output waveform given an input waveform and transformer specifications.
Explain the effect of transformer physics on various input signals.

Introduction to Physics or equivalent
Circuits 1 or equivalent
Circuits 2 (Semiconductors) or equivalent
Basic LabVIEW Proficiency
